RTI Workshop

June 25, 2004

Finally, we've reached the last day of the RTI Workshop! Overall, the week has
been a very fun and educational experience for both the kids and the adults.

The teams are working on several different projects; our goal is to have everyone
ready to present by 11:30. The kids have 90 minutes to complete their projects.

Above you can see the hydraulics project and the monorail project.
Below left, the students who worked on the Mars robots demonstrate how
their bots perform in "the field". The teams were able to compete the ice core
recovery missions fairly successfully. The solar panel clean-up mission and the
communication tower mission proved to be much more challenging.

The kids learned quite a bit about LEGO robotics, but they also learned that science
and engineering involves a lot of experimentation, and making decisions about
what parts of their mission are more important than others.

It's time for the presentation of the certificates. The smiles on their faces tells it all;
the kids had a great time, and they hope to get a chance to do it again next year.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful experience at the 21-25 June RTI workshop.
Have a great summer!
